PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. is set to play Thursday against the Boston Celtics after recovering from an illness that sidelined him earlier this week. This update comes as the team faces a challenging loss streak, having won only one of their last 12 games.

Oubre missed Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers but returned to the lineup for Tuesday’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, contributing significantly with 24 points on 11-for-19 shooting. He expressed gratitude for being able to step back onto the court despite feeling under the weather just hours before the game.

“A lot of fluids, kind of forcing myself to eat something, and just the will to want to come out here and give what I got,” Oubre told reporters after the game. “As long as I’m still breathing, I’m blessed to play this game, I’m blessed to play with this team.”

Oubre’s determination was evident as he pushed through his illness; he described the feeling of watching his team lose as far more challenging than playing through an ailment. “Honestly, man, I just want to fight. It killed me last night to watch the game on TV at home. I just want to be with my brothers.”

Philadelphia, currently 21-40 this season, is looking to improve its standing as it embarks on a crucial stretch of games. Coach Nick Nurse reported that injuries have plagued the team, with key players like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey also sidelined. The team is only 2.5 games back of the final play-in spot despite the difficult season.

Oubre is expected to take on a more prominent role as the Sixers navigate through their injury challenges, especially if standout players like Paul George and Justin Edwards miss the upcoming game. His performance against the Timberwolves was a much-needed boost, showcasing his capability to rally the team even under duress.

“I mean, 24 hours ago I was bedridden. My wife was taking care of me,” Oubre recounted. “But I give everything I got for it.”

The 76ers will face the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston on Thursday at 7 p.m., seeking to turn around their recent fortunes and secure a vital win on the road.
