San Francisco 49ers Draft Pick Nick Martin

Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA – The San Francisco 49ers selected linebacker Nick Martin from Oklahoma State University with the 75th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday night.

Martin, a standout during his college career, earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2023. That year, he led the Cowboys with 140 total tackles, the highest for an Oklahoma State player in almost 40 years. He also recorded 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 14 games.

Although a knee injury limited him to five games in 2024, Martin still amassed 47 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he showcased his athletic ability, running a 4.53-second 40-yard dash and achieving a 38-inch vertical jump.

The 49ers face a challenge replacing linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who departed to join the Denver Broncos. Martin’s impressive skill set, particularly his aggressive playing style, is seen as a potential asset in filling that void. The 49ers’ head coach aims to utilize Martin’s abilities alongside All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, who is expected to provide veteran guidance as Martin transitions into the NFL.

Martin’s addition comes as the 49ers aim to bolster their defense. He joins a group of linebackers vying for starting roles, including Dee Winters, who started 10 games last season. Despite his limited experience, Martin’s prior performance suggests he could develop into an impactful player.

“Nick is the kind of player we want on our team,” said 49ers’ general manager John Lynch. “His athleticism and instinct could make him a key player in our defense moving forward.”

The 49ers’ decision to draft Martin reflects their commitment to enhancing their defensive line and preparing for the future, even amidst the challenges posed by roster changes.
