San Francisco, CA — The San Francisco 49ers today announced significant roster changes, including the release of fullback Kyle Juszczyk, the re-signing of defensive lineman Kevin Givens to a one-year extension through 2025, and the tendering of a one-year contract to restricted free agent running back Jordan Mason.
Juszczyk, who is 33 years old, has been a key player for the team since joining as a free agent in 2017. Over his eight seasons with the 49ers, he appeared in 189 games, starting 142. He has recorded 67 carries for 237 yards and six rushing touchdowns, alongside 281 receptions for 2,664 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive strategy. In the postseason, Juszczyk played in 14 games, securing one touchdown with 16 receptions.
In 2024, he played in 17 games, starting 15, and registered a modest five carries for 26 yards, adding two touchdowns through the air. Notably, he earned his ninth consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl. His contributions to the team were formally recognized when he received the Bill Walsh Award in 2017 for exemplifying professional excellence.
Givens, 28, joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and has since developed into a valuable defensive option. Over the past six seasons, he has appeared in 65 games with 14 starts, accumulating 91 tackles, 8.0 sacks, and impressive postseason performance with 12 tackles in nine games. Givens articulated his excitement about re-signing, stating, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey with the 49ers and contribute to the team’s success.”
Meanwhile, Mason, a 25-year-old from Gallatin, TN, originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech in 2022. During his tenure, he has participated in 45 games, showcasing his potential with significant production, including 236 carries for 1,253 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. His performance in 2024 included a career-high 789 rushing yards across 12 games, demonstrating his growth within the team’s dynamic.
As the NFL approaches the free agency frenzy, the 49ers are expected to make further adjustments to their roster, indicating a strategic approach to bolster their competitiveness ahead of the upcoming season.
