D.j. Humphries Signing With 49ers Nfl

Santa Clara, California – The San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, his agency announced on Tuesday. This move comes after the team went through the entire 2025 NFL Draft without selecting an offensive tackle, highlighting their need for depth on the offensive line.

Humphries, a former first-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, has had a tumultuous career marred by injuries. At 31, he spent the previous season with the Kansas City Chiefs but only managed to play in two games, allowing three sacks and 11 pressures during that time.

“Back healthy and ready to work,” Humphries’ agency, AMDG Sports, posted on social media following the announcement. Humphries is looking to bounce back after suffering a torn ACL in December 2023, which ended his tenure with the Cardinals.

In a statement, 49ers general manager John Lynch expressed optimism about Humphries’ potential impact. “Having played extensively within the NFC West, D.J. brings valuable experience to our offensive line,” Lynch stated. “We believe he can push for a starting role alongside Trent Williams and Colton McKivitz.”

During his eight seasons in Arizona, Humphries started 100 games and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021, proving to be a reliable force on the field. However, his performance dipped significantly last season, with Pro Football Focus grading him at career lows of 44.8 overall and 30.5 in pass-blocking.

Despite his challenges, Humphries’ presence adds insurance to the 49ers’ tackle position. The team previously lost swing tackle Jaylon Moore to the Chiefs in free agency and needed to bolster their depth. With left tackle Trent Williams heading into his age-37 season, having a seasoned backup is crucial.

“We’re excited to have D.J. join us as we prepare for the upcoming season. He has the potential to be a key contributor to our offensive line,” Lynch added. The details of the contract between Humphries and the 49ers remain undisclosed.

As the NFL schedule release approaches on May 14, Humphries will have the opportunity to face his former team, the Cardinals, at least twice in the upcoming season.
