Luke Farrell San Francisco 49ers Tight End

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a three-year contract with tight end Luke Farrell, enhancing their receiving options as they continue discussions with quarterback Brock Purdy regarding a long-term deal. The contract is valued at $20.25 million, with $11 million guaranteed.

Farrell, 27, joins the 49ers after four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over his NFL career, he totaled 36 receptions for 318 yards in 66 games, starting 20 of those contests. Last season, he participated in 17 games, making eight starts and registering 12 catches for 67 yards.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported the signing, which aims to provide depth and support to the 49ers’ tight end position, as the team has been in search of a reliable option alongside All-Pro George Kittle. Farrell’s strong blocking skills were highlighted, as he earned an impressive 82.6 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus during the previous season, an asset that the 49ers prioritize in their tight end roles.

General manager John Lynch expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating, “Luke is a talented player who brings experience and a strong work ethic to our team. We’re excited to see how he can contribute to our offense going forward.” Lynch has been under pressure to bolster the team’s tight end depth, following challenges in drafting and developing quality options in the past.

Farrell’s addition comes at a crucial time as the 49ers look to solidify their offensive lineup in preparation for the upcoming season. While discussions continue regarding Purdy’s contract, the team aims to ensure that he has the necessary tools at his disposal, especially after advancing to the playoffs last year.

As the 49ers gear up for the 2025 season, expectations are high that Farrell will complement Kittle and provide another reliable target in the passing game. The 49ers’ investment in Farrell signals their commitment to maximizing their offensive capabilities as they chase a championship.
