San Francisco 49ers Ross Dwelley Signing Contract

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers re-signed tight end Ross Dwelley to a one-year contract on May 2, 2025. This marks a return for Dwelley, who began his NFL career with the 49ers in 2018.

Dwelley, 30, spent his first six seasons with San Francisco before playing last year with the Atlanta Falcons. During the 2024 season, he appeared in all 17 games but recorded only one catch for five yards. Most of his contributions came on special teams.

Standing 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 245 pounds, Dwelley originally joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent. Over his seven-year career, he has played in 101 games, with 17 starts, accumulating 45 receptions for 523 yards and five touchdowns. He has also participated in seven postseason games.

Dwelley hails from El Dorado Hills, California, and attended the University of San Diego. During his college career, he played 47 games with 44 starts and achieved 197 receptions for 2,305 yards and 26 touchdowns.

With this signing, the 49ers add depth to their tight end position, which includes starter George Kittle and free agent acquisition Luke Farrell. Dwelley’s experience in the 49ers system is expected to be an asset as he fights for a spot on the 53-man roster, alongside unproven options such as Brayden Willis and Jake Tonges.

Local analysts believe Dwelley’s versatility and familiarity with the team’s offensive schemes will aid his chances to secure a roster spot during training camp. As the offseason progresses, he will compete for playing time and contribute in various roles, especially on special teams.
