Edmonton Oilers Place Goaltender Jack Campbell on Unconditional Waivers for Buyout
The Edmonton Oilers have taken a significant move in their goaltending department, placing veteran goalie Jack Campbell on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout. Campbell, who signed a five-year, $25-million contract with the Oilers in 2022, struggled to find his footing with the team after departing from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
During his time with the Oilers, Campbell lost the starting position to Stuart Skinner, a rising talent in the Edmonton goaltending roster. This led to Campbell’s eventual demotion to the American Hockey League as his performance did not meet expectations set by the team management. With three years remaining on his contract, the decision to buy him out signifies the end of an unsuccessful chapter for Campbell in Edmonton.
Alongside the announcement regarding Campbell, the Edmonton Oilers also made qualifying offers to a group of key players, including forwards Dylan Holloway, Raphael Lavoie, and James Hamblin, as well as defensemen Philip Broberg and Noel Hoefenmayer. These offers highlight the team’s commitment to retaining and developing young talent within their organization.
However, not all players received qualifying offers from the Oilers. Forward Carter Savoie and goaltender Ryan Fanti did not make the cut, rendering them free agents and opening up possibilities for their future opportunities in the league. The team’s decisions reflect a strategic approach to roster management and player development as they navigate the complexities of the NHL landscape.
