Estêvão Scores on Chelsea Debut Against Bayer Leverkusen

Londres, Inglaterra — Estêvão made a stunning start to his Chelsea career with a goal during his debut in a friendly match against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old forward opened the scoring in the 17th minute by capitalizing on a rebound from Cole Palmer’s shot that hit the crossbar. Estêvão directed the ball into the empty net with his left foot, marking a memorable first appearance for the club.
“It’s crazy. I’ve been a professional for a year and a half, and things are happening so quickly. With this recognition, it’s incredible to see that my hard work is being valued,” Estêvão said to Jornal Nacional following the match.
This week has been particularly uplifting for Estêvão as he was also nominated for the Kopa Trophy, which celebrates the best under-21 player globally, during the Ballon d’Or awards organized by France Football.
In the match, Estêvão played on the right side of the attack, similar to his role at Palmeiras, where he was a standout player before transferring to Chelsea. Coach Enzo Maresca positioned him alongside Palmer in the midfield and Tyrique George, a 19-year-old, on the left wing.
Chelsea will play another friendly on Sunday against AC Milan at Stamford Bridge. Their official season opener in the Premier League is scheduled for August 17, when they face Crystal Palace.
Estêvão’s transfer from Palmeiras to Chelsea was completed in 2024 but was delayed until this year due to his age. The deal is reported to be worth €61.5 million, making it Palmeiras’ record sale.
