Eva Lys Tennis Match Beijing

BEIJING, China — Eva Lys achieved a career milestone on Sunday by upsetting the No. 8 seed Elena Rybakina 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 during the China Open. The match, which lasted 2 hours and 14 minutes, marked Lys’ first victory over a top 10 opponent and advanced her to the fourth round of a WTA 1000 event for the first time.

Lys expressed her excitement after the match, stating, “I’ve already outdone myself. Being in the fourth round for the first time is a nice feeling, so I’m just enjoying everything.” Her determination shone through as she fought through a tough match against Rybakina.

The match was a test of skill and resilience, with pivotal moments affecting the outcome. In the first set, Lys managed to break Rybakina’s serve, taking a 5-3 lead, which she secured by holding her own serve to win the set. Rybakina quickly bounced back, dominating the second set to force a decisive third.

The final set was a back-and-forth affair until Lys turned the tide. After being broken to fall behind 4-3, she broke back and closed out the match with her seventh break of serve. According to the statistics, both players were neck-and-neck, but Lys excelled in her first-serve percentage (71% compared to Rybakina’s 46%) and managed fewer unforced errors (20 compared to Rybakina’s 50).

Lys is set to face McCartney Kessler in the fourth round after Kessler advanced due to Barbora Krejcikova’s retirement due to injury. Kessler was leading the match when Krejcikova withdrew, adding to the tension of an already dramatic tournament.

As Lys looks forward to her next match against Kessler, she carries the momentum of her recent performances and hopes to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. If successful, it could elevate her ranking into the top 50 for the first time in her career.
