Everton Farewells Goodison Park Against Relegated Southampton

LIVERPOOL, England — Everton will host Southampton on Sunday, May 18, in their final Premier League match at Goodison Park. The Toffees, facing relegated Southampton, are set to say goodbye to the stadium they have called home for 133 years.
The men’s team will move to the newly named Hill Dickinson Stadium starting in the 2025-26 season, while the women’s team will inherit Goodison Park. This emotional match marks a significant farewell for fans who have cherished the historic venue.
Everton’s manager, David Moyes, expressed the desire for a final victory at home. “The fans deserve a win on this special day,” Moyes said, highlighting the importance of the outcome, despite the meaningless nature of the match for the league standings.
Southampton has struggled throughout the season, finishing at the bottom of the table with just 12 points. They recently managed to secure a draw against Manchester City, surpassing Derby County‘s record for the lowest points in a Premier League season.
Injuries continue to plague both teams. Everton’s Jake O'Brien, who missed the previous match against Fulham, is expected to return, while key players Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrøm, and James Tarkowski will be sidelined. Moyes hinted at a few changes, including O’Brien stepping in for Ashley Young.
Meanwhile, Southampton’s interim manager, Simon Rusk, is uncertain about right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who has been ill. Without fresh injury worries, Rusk may stick with the starting eleven that earned a point against City.
While neither team requires points for their season’s outcome, Everton aims to provide a grand send-off to their fans at Goodison. With the intense support from the crowd, they hope to secure a win against the Saints, adding to their recent success against Southampton this season.
As kickoff approaches, the atmosphere at Goodison Park is expected to be electric, setting the stage for a memorable farewell.
