Sam Burns Golf U.s. Open Oakmont

OAKMONT, Pa. — The final round of the 2025 U.S. Open is set to begin at 7:52 a.m. ET Sunday, with a thrilling showdown on the horizon. Sam Burns leads the tournament at 4-under, hoping to secure his first major championship, while J.J. Spaun and Adam Scott, both in pursuit of their first and second majors respectively, will try to capitalize on any opportunity.

Burns, who is a strong contender, is the first player to carry a 1-shot lead into the final round at Oakmont since Ben Hogan in 1953. Historically, 32 percent of players with a 1-shot lead through 54 holes have won this championship, raising the stakes for the talented golfer.

At 44 years old, Scott is looking to reclaim glory after more than a decade since his last major victory at the 2013 Masters. He finished the third round with a score of 67, placing him just one stroke behind Burns. ‘I feel ready,’ Scott said. ‘It’s my time to show I can still compete.’ His experience will be vital as all eyes are on him.

J.J. Spaun, recorded a round of 69, is just off the lead and is keen on surprising many by clinching his first title as well. ‘I’m focused and ready to go,’ Spaun commented, clearly prepared for the challenges of the final round.

Notably, Carlos Ortiz, who is currently four strokes back at even par, has a chance to make history as the first male Mexican-born golfer to win a major if he can overcome the odds. Ortiz shot a commendable 67 in the third round, hoping to ride that momentum into the final round. ‘It’s a big deal for me,’ said Ortiz. ‘I’ll be giving it my all.’

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Viktor Hovland, sitting in fourth place at 1-under, is also hungry for his first major title. ‘I feel like I’m playing well,’ Hovland said, adding confidence as the day progresses.

The final group featuring Burns and Scott will tee off at 2:15 p.m. ET, followed by Spaun and Hovland in the penultimate pairing. A thrilling day lies ahead for competitors and fans alike at Oakmont.
