Exciting Matches to Watch on Day 2 of the Australian Open
Coco Gauff, Andy Murray, Naomi Osaka, Daniil Medvedev, and Ons Jabeur are all set to compete on the second day of the 2024 Australian Open. Play began one day earlier than usual, extending the tournament by 15 days.
Jannik Sinner and Maria Sakkari were both victorious on the opening day. Fans eagerly await to find out who will advance to the second round along with them. Gauff and Medvedev will kick off the action on the main show courts, while Rod Laver Arena will feature a headline clash between Osaka, a two-time champion, and 16th seed Caroline Garcia.
The Australian Open will be live-streamed on Eurosport and can be accessed on the Eurosport website and app across various devices. Eurosport provides round-the-clock coverage from Melbourne, with play starting at midnight in the UK every day.
Some of the most highly anticipated men’s matches have been scheduled for the night session, including local favorite Alex de Minaur facing former Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic on Rod Laver Arena. The match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Dominic Thiem on Margaret Court Arena is also expected to be thrilling, as Thiem aims to regain form.
Naomi Osaka has fond memories of the Australian Open, having won two of her four Grand Slam titles there, including her most recent championship in 2021. Osaka returns to a major tournament for the first time since giving birth in July, and faces a challenging first-round match against 16th seed Caroline Garcia.
In the women’s draw, fourth seed Coco Gauff will take on Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in her opening match. Gauff recently won the 2023 US Open and is coming off a title defense in Auckland. Daniil Medvedev, a two-time Australian Open runner-up, opens his campaign against French qualifier Terence Atmane. Ons Jabeur will face Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva, while Andy Murray kicks off his tournament against 30th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Other British players, including Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, Jack Draper, Dan Evans, and Cameron Norrie, will compete on the following day.
In a scheduling change, Stefanos Tsitsipas will now face Zizou Bergs in his first match instead of Matteo Berrettini.
