Fantasy Football Lineup Decisions

Fantasy football enthusiasts often face a difficult decision when considering whether to start or sit certain players. Making the right call can lead to fantasy success, while benching a player who performs well can be frustrating. As the NFL season progresses, analyzing player statistics and matchups becomes crucial. In week seven, several players present interesting dilemmas for fantasy managers.

One such player is running back Williams of the New Orleans Saints. Williams ranks as the RB37 in fantasy football this season, with averages of 13.1 touches and 59.3 total yards per game. Among the 61 qualifying running backs, Williams stands 39th in explosive run rate and 42nd in yards after contact per attempt. Derek Brown, a fantasy football expert, notes that the Saints’ run defense has weakened significantly, potentially allowing Williams to have his best game of the season.

Wide receiver Sutton offers another point of discussion. Currently, he ranks as WR45 in fantasy points per game, with statistics highlighting a 23.2% target share, 43.2% air-yard share, and 32.8% first-read share. He has maintained an impressive 1.53 yards per route run (YPRR) and ranks third in the NFL for red zone targets. This week’s matchup is favorable for Sutton as New Orleans has allowed the fifth-most receiving yards per game to perimeter wide receivers.

Supporting this point, Sutton is projected to run around 85% of his routes against cornerbacks who have struggled with low catch rates and passer ratings. This inclusion could prove pivotal for fantasy managers making difficult lineup decisions.

Another player to consider is Johnson, who may benefit from injuries affecting the Saints’ pass-catching options. Since Week 4, Johnson has seen increased involvement with a 9.9% target share, 1.11 YPRR, and a 10.4% first-read share. Although lacking red-zone opportunities, Johnson faces the Denver Broncos, who have shown average defense against tight ends.
