Doctors in Greeley have declared a 33-year-old man, Jose Sambrano, clinically brain dead after a tragic accident following a police chase. Sambrano, who was involved in a high-speed collision in a stolen Dodge 1500 pickup truck, had been in critical condition at a local hospital since the incident.

According to authorities from Greeley Police, the events unfolded when an officer attempted to pull over Sambrano after identifying the stolen vehicle. Sambrano, in an attempt to evade the police, ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 20th Street in Greeley.

The stolen Dodge truck had been reported stolen earlier that evening, with the owner sustaining severe injuries as he was dragged by his vehicle during the theft. Subsequently, the collision involving Sambrano’s vehicle also caused injuries to a man, woman, and child in the other vehicle, who are fortunately expected to recover fully.

Further investigations revealed that Sambrano was linked to a burglary on 8th Avenue shortly before the tragic accident. The homeowner, who was present during the burglary, fortunately escaped unharmed.

Public records indicate that Sambrano had a history of 25 traffic, misdemeanor, and felony cases dating back to 2009. He had previously served time in the Colorado Department of Corrections for felony trespass and was also arrested recently on a theft charge, just 10 days before the fatal accident.

Logan Smith, an experienced assignment desk editor at CBS in Denver, brings insights into the incident, shedding light on the extensive consequences of the police chase gone wrong in Greeley.
