Father of Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Arrested on DWI Charges
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The 53-year-old former MLB pitcher was booked in the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas on Saturday.
Mahomes Sr. is facing a charge of DWI for the third time or more, according to the records. His bond has been set at $10,000. This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has faced DWI charges. He was previously charged with a DWI offense in 2018, for which he served 40 days in a county jail.
In addition to his baseball career, Mahomes Sr. has also made headlines in the past for his behavior related to alcohol. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication during a game between Texas Christian University (TCU) and Texas Tech in 2016.
The timing of Mahomes Sr.’s arrest is notable as it comes just ahead of his son’s upcoming Super Bowl LVIII matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. Patrick Mahomes Jr. is the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
During his career as an MLB pitcher from 1992 to 2003, Mahomes Sr. played for several teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburg Pirates. He also earned himself a spot in the MLB All-Star Game.
In recent years, Mahomes Sr. has been hosting a weekly podcast called ‘The Big Mahomes Show,’ which provides coverage of all things sports. The podcast aims to offer a behind-the-scenes look at professional sports.
Mahomes Sr. has two sons, Patrick Mahomes Jr. and Jackson Mahomes, from his previous marriage to Randi Martin. He also has a daughter named Zoe Mahomes from a subsequent relationship.
Patrick Mahomes Jr., the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, and his wife Brittany Matthews, recently became parents to two children – daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes and son Patrick Lavon Mahomes III.
