FBI Probes Letitia James for Alleged Mortgage Fraud

NEW YORK, NY — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James for possible mortgage fraud, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed in a recent Fox News interview.
The investigation centers around allegations that James made false statements on a mortgage application for a Virginia property. Sources stated that a grand jury in Virginia has issued subpoenas in relation to the case.
James is known for her civil lawsuit against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, which resulted in a significant penalty last year due to claims of faulty business practices. Now, she is the first public official who scrutinized the president to face potential criminal charges.
In the interview, Patel emphasized that this investigation is being handled by expert professionals within the FBI. He did not provide further details about the investigation.
James’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, dismissed the allegations as baseless, calling them a form of political retaliation. He claimed that many inaccuracies in James’ paperwork have been exaggerated while ignoring numerous accurate documents.
In an earlier statement, Lowell remarked that the investigation is a continuation of the retribution promised by Trump against James. He acknowledged that there were minor mistakes in some documents but insisted they do not constitute fraud.
The allegations began when William Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, referred James for criminal prosecution, suggesting that she may have falsified property records.
Responding to the investigation, James stated, “This investigation into me is nothing more than retribution. It’s baseless.” She confirmed her intent to use a mix of private legal funds and state resources to cover her legal expenses.
The growing tensions between James and Trump have sparked a series of legal battles, including her 2022 lawsuit against him and his family, which resulted in a hefty judgment now under appeal.
