Fever Coach White Supports Bonner’s Absence Ahead of Game

INDIANAPOLIS – DeWanna Bonner will not play in Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Dream due to personal reasons, Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White announced on Friday. Bonner was present during Tuesday’s game in Atlanta but has missed the last two practice sessions.
“I think she’s doing as well as she can be right now,” White said. “We’re going to continue to support her and give her the time that she needs. I don’t anticipate her being here (Saturday). It’s just about supporting her and giving her what she needs.”
Bonner, who joined the Fever this offseason, began as a starter but has transitioned to coming off the bench. She is averaging 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game, playing primarily at the 3 and 4 positions. With Bonner out, Indiana will have 10 players available for their game, assuming other injured players are ready to return.
In addition to Bonner’s absence, Caitlin Clark is expected back on the court for the Fever after missing five games with a quadriceps strain. Clark stated she will not have any restrictions on her playing time.
“I’m not a huge fan of minutes restrictions. I think they’re silly,” Clark said. “I told them, ‘I don’t want to come back unless I’m 100% full go.’ Why would I be out there to play 20 minutes?”
Clark missed significant game time after experiencing pain following a match against the New York Liberty on May 24. She began practicing again on June 9 but was cautious in her return.
Coach White expressed confidence in Clark’s readiness, noting the training staff cleared her to play without restrictions. “She’s done the work that she needs to do to make sure she’s ready to go,” White said.
Finally, coach White confirmed that Kelsey Cunningham, who has battled through injury, is also expected to be available for Saturday’s matchup. Cunningham has been sidelined for the past two weeks due to ankle issues.
“I think she looks ready to roll,” White said. “Her timing was good, and she’s been reintegrating into live action. It’s all about finding the rhythm.”
As game day approaches, Fever fans await the latest developments regarding Bonner, Clark, and Cunningham.
