2024 Nba Rookies

The 2024 NBA draft may not have been the most highly anticipated event in recent years, yet several rookies have already begun to make a name for themselves in the preseason. Among them, Zaccharie Risacher, the No. 1 overall pick, has been particularly impressive. However, attention is now shifting towards lesser-known names who have performed beyond expectations, potentially becoming ‘steals’ of the draft.

One noteworthy rookie is Jaylon Tyson, selected 20th overall in the first round. Despite skepticism based on his age and extended college tenure, Tyson has proven his critics wrong in the preseason. During his two games, he has averaged 9.5 points on 53.8 percent shooting, alongside 6.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 0.5 blocks in approximately 20 minutes per game. This performance, showcasing his versatility, earns him a viable spot in the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ rotation.

An additional promising player is Dillon Jones, picked 26th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 235 pounds, Jones has displayed his prowess by averaging 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and shooting 50 percent from the three-point line across four preseason games. Given the Thunder’s deep roster, it remains to be seen how Jones will fit into the team’s rotation; however, his skill set adds value.

Memphis Grizzlies‘ Cody Wells, selected 39th overall in the second round, has pleasantly surprised many. With an average of 15.3 points in 24 minutes, Wells is shooting 45.5 percent from beyond the arc. His adaptability will be crucial for the Grizzlies, who plan to optimize their wing strength with Wells’ presence.

The New York Knicks might have struck gold with Tyler Kolek, who fell into their lap early in the second round despite being projected as a first-rounder. His averages of 11 points, 3.7 rebounds, and significant assist numbers in just 18.4 minutes reflect his potential value, especially following the trade of Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Lastly, Ryan Dunn, nearly a second-round pick, was picked up by the Phoenix Suns at No. 28. Dunn’s defense was lauded throughout his college career. Remarkably, he has managed to overcome his reputation for poor shooting by scoring efficiently in the preseason, highlighted by a standout 20-point game against the Denver Nuggets.

While these rookies continue to adjust to the NBA, their unexpected ascensions have already started to pay dividends for their respective franchises. As the regular season approaches, basketball fans anticipate seeing how these new talents progress and influence their teams.
