Nfl Alternate Helmets Teams 2025 News

Indianapolis, IN — Five NFL teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers, are set to unveil new alternate helmets this summer for the 2025 season, a move predicted to shake up team identities on the field.

The NFL lifted the one-shell rule in 2022, allowing teams to introduce alternate helmets. Since then, 24 of the 32 teams have adopted this trend. The Steelers and Chargers are among the last to join this program, having not featured alternate helmets since the rule was originally implemented.

Other teams expected to debut new helmets include the Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders. Teams now have the option to create a second alternate helmet design, expanding their uniform possibilities and fan engagement.

The Browns currently use a white alternate helmet with their vintage throwback uniforms, while the Saints have introduced a black helmet for their ‘Color Rush’ uniforms. The Commanders have also added a black alternate helmet to enhance their all-black uniform set.

Despite the range of new designs, six teams, including the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers, have yet to introduce a second helmet. The Dolphins utilize a throwback logo on their traditional helmets for vintage game sets, negating the need for an alternative shell.

The specifics of the new helmets for 2025 have not been disclosed, but they are expected to be revealed in July. Fans and analysts eagerly await the designs as they look to enhance their teams’ visuals and connect with their histories.
