Calgary Flames Home Opener Vs St. Louis Blues

CALGARY, Alberta — The Calgary Flames return home to face the St. Louis Blues for their 2025-26 home opener at 2 p.m. MT Saturday following a two-game road trip. After securing a point in a shootout victory over the Edmonton Oilers and suffering a defeat against the Vancouver Canucks, the Flames are eager to kick off their home schedule on a positive note.

The Flames managed to generate only 18 shots in their last game and will aim to improve their offense. Head coach Ryan Huska emphasized the importance of “getting more traffic” and increasing shot volume towards the net. “It’s just a matter of sticking with it,” Huska said. “We’ve got to hit the net more than what we did.”

After the lackluster performance in Vancouver, forward Morgan Frost, who scored the lone goal in that match, stressed the need for a strong home game. “You’ve got to win the one at home. I know the crowd will be into it, and all the boys will be fired up for that one,” he stated.

The Blues, however, come into this matchup following a disappointing 5-0 loss against the Minnesota Wild, where they struggled to generate sufficient offense. Coach Jim Montgomery noted the need for better net presence. “There’s a process that we believe in. A lot of those details cost us tonight,” he said after their opening game.

The Blues will rely on their high-scoring core, which includes Robert Thomas, who had 81 points last season, to bounce back against the Flames. With the Blues recent dominance over Calgary, winning all three meetings last season, the Flames are aware of the challenge they face. “A quick turnaround with the 2 o’clock game, but I think those situations, the players would prefer to play in,” Huska added.

Both teams will aim to establish dominance early in the season as they clash at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Fans are also invited to the Home Opener Red Carpet festivities before the game, adding to the excitement in Calgary. As the Flames look to gain momentum, the matchup promises to be intense, with both teams needing to establish their identity early in the season.
