Flash Flooding Hits Dollywood during Thunderstorm
On Sunday, Dollywood found itself in a tough spot as a series of thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing down heavy rain and leading to flash flooding in the popular theme park.
Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Dollywood experienced torrential downpours that flooded many areas, forcing park officials to evacuate guests for their safety. Social media posts from Dollywood kept folks updated on the situation.
In all the chaos, one guest reportedly suffered a minor injury, and local fire and police departments had to step in to assist in safely getting everyone out of the park. Some visitors even found themselves without a vehicle due to the quick rise of the floodwaters.
A message from Dollywood stated, “Dollywood is supporting guests whose vehicles were affected by this weather event,” as they deployed cleanup crews to tackle the aftermath of the storm.
Visitors shared their experiences through various photos and videos on social media, giving everyone a peek into the flooding. Clips showed guests wading through ankle-deep water in the parking areas, while some cars had to navigate through murky water that nearly covered their tires.
One user, Park Fanatic, shared a collage of images of the scene at Dollywood, including snapshots of guests walking through waist-deep water.
According to several news outlets, over 4.5 inches of rain fell in Dollywood’s area, leading to significant flooding both at the theme park and its surroundings. The National Weather Service even issued a flash flood warning for Sevier County, which was active from 5:39 p.m. until 9:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Despite the flooding issues, Dollywood is aiming to reopen around noon on Monday, and eager guests are encouraged to check the park’s official channels for the latest updates.
