Dallas Wilson Florida Football Freshman Debut

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson is expected to make his collegiate debut against No. 9 Texas on Saturday. Wilson has been practicing since recovering from a left foot injury sustained during training camp, coach Billy Napier confirmed Monday.

Napier described Wilson’s return as a significant development, stating, “Three good days of work last week, and I thought he handled the load well. He feels really good. So far, so good.” The 6-foot-3, 213-pound player from Tampa dazzled during Florida’s spring game, recording 10 catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilson’s injury kept him sidelined as the Gators (1-3, 0-1 SEC) struggled offensively, scoring just 16, 10, and 7 points in recent losses to South Florida, LSU, and Miami. Quarterback DJ Lagway has been under scrutiny due to the team’s overall performance. Lagway, who missed significant time with injuries, has not found his rhythm this season, completing just 12 of 23 passes for 61 yards in a loss to Miami on September 20.

During the off-week, Napier focused on improving Lagway’s readiness, emphasizing the need for better support from the entire offense. “Each position group needs to step up,” Napier said. “More detail, eliminate errors, eliminate penalties. I think more detail and better overall play around him is necessary.”

Wilson’s addition could bring much-needed depth to Florida’s receiving corps. Freshman Vernell Brown III has been Lagway’s primary target, recording 18 receptions for 219 yards. However, Wilson’s explosive playmaking ability is expected to enhance the Gators’ passing attack, which has struggled to surpass 80 receiving yards in a game this season.

<p"Just having him out is going to be amazing for us," Lagway said. "His ability to go deep and make plays underneath will be great for our team." Kickoff for the game is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN and local radio stations.
