San Diego, CA – The University of Florida Gators defeated the Providence Friars 84-74 in the consolation game of the Rady Children’s Invitational on November 28, 2025, held at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Gators improved to 5-2 for the season while Providence fell to 4-3.

Florida’s Thomas Haugh dominated the boards, recording 12 rebounds and leading his team with 16 points. His performance was crucial as Florida struggled to find their rhythm early in the game.

Providence fought hard, with multiple players making significant contributions. Corey Floyd Jr. led the Friars with 20 points, while Ryan Mela added 15. The team’s efforts in the first half kept the score close, but Florida managed to pull ahead in the second half.

The stats were tight, with Providence shooting 43.3 percent from the field compared to Florida’s 42.4 percent. However, Florida’s success from beyond the arc at 36.4 percent outperformed Providence’s 37.5 percent. The Gators also excelled from the free-throw line, scoring 25 out of 27 attempts.

As the game progressed, Florida’s bench emerged as a strength, contributing to their efforts on both sides of the court. Head coach Todd Golden praised his team’s resilience after a challenging matchup. “We needed this win to build our confidence going forward,” he said.
