TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 6, 2025) – Florida State senior forward Makayla Timpson has been named a finalist for the 2025 Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award, a recognition announced Thursday by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

Timpson joins Kiki Iriafen (USC), Aneesah Morrow (LSU), Yvonne Ejim (Gonzaga), and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Baylor) in the prestigious group of finalists. She made a significant impact during the regular season, ranking second in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 15 double-doubles while extending her FSU career total to 46 double-doubles, a program record.

This season, Timpson also broke her own single-season record for blocks, registering a remarkable 91. Her defensive prowess was recognized when she was named to her third ACC All-Defensive Team, in addition to earning a second All-ACC First Team selection.

In her recent performances, Timpson showcased her skill during an upset victory against No. 3 Notre Dame, where she recorded 22 points and 17 rebounds, contributing to an 86-81 win. This game not only marked the third ranked victory for the Seminoles this season but also set a program milestone, as Florida State became the first team in its history to secure consecutive wins against ranked opponents on the road.

Timpson solidified her place in the FSU record books by surpassing Natasha Howard’s record for most rebounds in a career, finishing the season with 1,066 rebounds. During the regular season, she averaged 17.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while posting a shooting percentage of 55.

She delivered standout performances against other ranked teams, scoring 25 points and grabbing eight rebounds against No. 16 Duke, and recording 19 points along with 16 rebounds in a win over No. 20 Georgia Tech. Throughout the season, Timpson has achieved personal highs with 38 points, 22 rebounds, eight blocks, and six steals in various games.

The Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award, now in its eighth year, honors the top power forwards in women’s collegiate basketball each year. It is named after Katrina McClain, a celebrated athlete in USA Basketball history, who won two Olympic gold medals and one bronze, in addition to multiple medals in various international competitions.

Beginning March 7, fans will have the opportunity to participate in Fan Voting at hoophallawards.com, which counts as one vote in the selection committee’s decision-making process. Selection committees consist of leading figures in men’s and women’s college basketball, including media members, head coaches, and Hall of Famers.
