On Friday, November 29, 2024, the Florida State Seminoles saw their first player enter the NCAA Transfer Portal for the upcoming transfer period. Redshirt senior wide receiver Deuce Spann has decided to explore his options elsewhere after a season that saw limited playing time.

Spann, a veteran on the Seminoles’ roster, was expected to play a significant role in the wide receiver rotation this season. However, he appeared in only four games in September and did not see the field again after that. His contributions were mainly limited to the scout team, where he managed just one catch for five yards.

Despite his limited role as a wide receiver, Spann’s most notable impact came on special teams. He scored a crucial kickoff return touchdown in Florida State‘s comeback victory against Duke in 2023. Originally a quarterback, Spann struggled to adapt to the wide receiver position at the college level. Throughout his 27 appearances with the Seminoles, he caught 10 passes for 92 yards, rushed for 46 yards on ten carries, and returned 13 kicks for 348 yards and one touchdown.

Spann began his college career at Illinois before transferring to Florida State prior to the 2022 season. He is expected to have one season of eligibility remaining. The NCAA Transfer Portal officially opens on December 9, and the Seminoles are anticipated to be highly active during this period.
