Former AFL Player Manager Ricky Nixon’s Arrest Warrant Withdrawn Due to Administrative Error
A magistrate at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court has withdrawn an arrest warrant for former AFL player manager Ricky Nixon after it was discovered that an administrative error had been made. Nixon, 60, was scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning to face 10 charges of obtaining property by deception. The allegations involve Nixon selling footballs he claimed were autographed by players from the Melbourne Football Club following their AFL premiership win, and fraudulently receiving $595 per football.
The warrant for Nixon’s arrest was initially issued on Monday after he failed to appear for his mention hearing. However, the warrant was withdrawn on Tuesday, as it became clear that the hearing should have been adjourned without Nixon’s presence being required. A spokesperson from the court explained that an administrative error had led to the mix-up.
Nixon’s case has now been adjourned until February 13. In an interview on Nova 100’s morning show, Nixon lightheartedly joked about being in jail before clarifying that he was not actually wanted for arrest. He criticized the Melbourne courts and police, blaming them for the confusion surrounding his case.
