Zach Edey Basketball Speeding Charge

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Indiana — Zach Edey, a former Purdue basketball star and current NBA player, has been charged with reckless driving after a recent traffic stop. Indiana State Police reported they pulled over the 7-foot-4 athlete for speeding on May 1.

Edey was driving a Kia Sorento at 101 mph in a 55-mph zone on Indiana 25 when he was stopped by authorities. The 23-year-old told the police he was attempting to pass another vehicle at the time, according to local news sources.

The Canadian player, who was drafted 9th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2024, had an impressive college career. During his final season at Purdue, he averaged 24.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game, leading the nation in scoring and ranking third in rebounding.

Edey is known for being one of the most decorated players in college basketball history, holding several records at Purdue. In his rookie NBA season, he averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds over 66 games, earning a place on the All-Rookie First Team.

Despite the legal issue, Edey remains recognized for his talent on the court, finishing fourth in Rookie of the Year voting, just behind Stephon Castle, Zaccharie Risacher, and teammate Jaylen Wells.
