Former Blue Jays Reliever Tim Mayza Signs Minor League Deal with Yankees
The New York Yankees have made an acquisition in the form of former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Tim Mayza, as reported by Katie Woo and Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. The deal involves a minor league agreement for the veteran pitcher.
After being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on June 29, Mayza was subsequently released on July 5. The 32-year-old left-hander struggled with an ERA of 8.03 and a WHIP of 1.94 over 24.2 innings pitched in 35 appearances this season. His last outing with the Jays came on June 28, where he conceded five hits and five runs without recording an out in a 16-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
Tim Mayza had a standout performance last season, boasting a stellar 1.52 ERA over 53.1 innings of work. The southpaw has spent his entire seven-year major league career with the Blue Jays, compiling a career ERA of 3.87 and tallying 292 strikeouts across 283.2 innings pitched.
