Former Celtic Midfielder Stuart Gray Passes Away At 50

Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Gray has sadly passed away at the age of 50, the club confirmed today. Gray, who played for Celtic in the 1990s, also had spells at Reading and Rushden & Diamonds later in his career. The Scottish under-21 international revealed last year that he was battling cancer.

Stuart Gray’s debut for Celtic came on May 1, 1993, in a 1-0 home win over Aberdeen. He went on to make 32 appearances for the club, scoring one goal in a 4-1 win over Raith Rovers in May 1996. After leaving Celtic, Gray joined Tommy Burns’ Reading side in 1998, where he spent three years. He later played for Rushden & Diamonds, making 142 appearances over four years.

The news of Stuart Gray’s passing has saddened everyone at Celtic Park. The midfielder, son of Eddie and nephew of Frank Gray, both of whom were stars in the famous Leeds United side of the early 1970s, will be fondly remembered. The Celtic players will wear black armbands in tribute to him during today’s game against Ross County.
