Former Celtics Point Guard Rajon Rondo Arrested on Gun and Drug Charges
Former Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was arrested in Indiana over the weekend on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana, according to WDRB-TV. The arrest took place after Rondo was pulled over by Indiana State Police in Jackson County for a traffic violation.
During the traffic stop, a trooper detected the smell of marijuana, leading to a search of Rondo’s vehicle. The search resulted in the discovery of a “personal use” amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm. It is worth noting that Rondo had a no-contact order against him, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Rondo, who played nine seasons with the Celtics and was part of the team’s NBA Finals victory in 2008, was taken to the Jackson County Jail and posted bond soon after.
This incident is not the first time Rondo has encountered legal troubles. In 2022, a Louisville woman sought an emergency protective order against Rondo, claiming he had threatened her life and displayed a firearm. He subsequently underwent anger management classes, counseling, and a mental health evaluation. The same woman filed another emergency protective order in March 2023, which was resolved through an agreed order later that year.
Rondo’s basketball career has not been limited to the Celtics. After being selected by the Phoenix Suns in the 2006 NBA draft, he was traded to the Celtics and went on to become a pivotal player in the team’s championship win. Throughout his 16-season career, Rondo has also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
