Former Champion May Set to Depart AEW for WWE

LAS VEGAS, April 14, 2025 – Mariah May, a former Women’s Champion in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), is reportedly on the verge of leaving the promotion amid speculation of a move to WWE. May’s recent absence from AEW programming has fueled rumors regarding her future as she transitions out of the company.
After winning the Women’s Championship at Wembley Stadium in August 2024 and holding it for 174 days, May lost her title back to Toni Storm at Grand Slam Australia. The rivalry culminated in a brutal match at Revolution where Storm successfully retained her championship. Since her loss, fans and analysts alike have noticed May’s conspicuous absence from AEW events, stirring speculation about her next career move.
Dave Meltzer, a reputable wrestling journalist, discusses May’s potential departure, citing a cryptic social media post she made recently. He reported, “She has a photo of Orlando, Florida. I know from people in WWE they know she wants to go there. I think people saw that cryptic thing. I don’t know when her contract is up, everyone seems to think it’s this summer that’s it up.” Meanwhile, Bryan Alvarez echoed Meltzer’s thoughts, stating, “I was given the impression it’s a two-year deal that she signed originally, so you can do the math.”
Meltzer further suggested that AEW’s Tony Khan often removes wrestlers from TV if they intend to leave, reinforcing this with May’s complete absence since her last match against Storm. “My gut is that AEW would offer her a lot more than WWE,” Meltzer said, “But I think her dream has always been WWE, given its global platform.”
In recent years, several stars, including former champions like Ricky Starks and Penta, have made the transition from AEW to WWE, indicating a trend that could spell more changes for the wrestling landscape leading up to All In 2024.
Ricky Starks, who was known as Ricky Saints in his earlier career, also made headlines after moving to WWE following a lack of television appearances in AEW. After debuting in 2020 and winning titles, Stark’s career in WWE has quickly ascended. He is set to defend his NXT North American Championship at WrestleMania weekend against other prominent wrestlers.
Meanwhile, PAC, the current AEW Trios Champion, faces uncertainty as well. He is reportedly dealing with an ankle injury following a match on Dynamite on April 9th. Details surrounding the severity of the injury remain unclear, as PAC has a history of injuries that have previously sidelined him.
