Former Florida State Quarterback Chubba Purdy Rescinds Name From NCAA Transfer Portal
Former Florida State quarterback Chubba Purdy has made a significant decision regarding his collegiate football career, rescinding his name from the NCAA transfer portal. Purdy had initially entered the portal last week but has now decided to remain at the University of Nevada. This move marks the latest development in Purdy’s collegiate journey, which has seen him play for Florida State, Nebraska, and now Nevada.
Purdy, the brother of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, began his collegiate career at Florida State as a four-star recruit. However, his time at FSU was marred by injuries, including a broken collarbone suffered during an August 2020 scrimmage and a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the rest of the 2020 season after a game against NC State. Despite these setbacks, Purdy has managed to appear in 15 games with five starts across his stints with the Seminoles and Cornhuskers, completing 85 of 163 passes for 846 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also contributed on the ground, rushing 73 times for 315 yards and three additional scores.
In his current season at Nevada, Purdy has played in seven games, the most in any single season of his career, going 31-57 through the air for 382 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. This decision to stay at Nevada comes after a period of significant change in the college football landscape, particularly with the retirement of Alabama‘s Nick Saban and the subsequent coaching carousel that has affected numerous programs and players.
Meanwhile, Florida State has been making its own moves, with recent press conferences featuring new coaching additions. Gus Malzahn and Tony White have been introduced in their new roles, marking a new era for the Seminoles. These changes are part of the ongoing efforts by Florida State to strengthen its football program and attract top talent, both from the transfer portal and through recruiting.
