Jalil Bethea Alabama Basketball Transfer

Tuscaloosa, AL — Jalil Bethea, a former guard for the Miami Hurricanes, has announced his commitment to the University of Alabama following a challenging season. Bethea entered the transfer portal after averaging 7.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game during the 2024–25 season.

After a season filled with both frustration and growth, the five-star recruit had Miami listed alongside Alabama, NC State, and Kansas State as his final options. Despite a tumultuous year at Miami, Bethea demonstrated significant potential towards the end of the season as he adapted his gameplay to focus on defense, a skill he needed to develop after being a prolific scorer in high school.

“It’s been a tough season, but I feel I matured a lot as a player,” Bethea stated. “I’m excited about this new opportunity at Alabama and looking forward to working with Coach Oats to reach my potential.”

Bethea, who hails from Philadelphia, had a promising start to his college basketball career but struggled with consistency throughout the season. When given extended minutes, he showcased flashes of his scoring prowess, exhibiting an athleticism that was not fully utilized while at Miami.

In Tuscaloosa, he will join a program eager to expand his talents. Coach Nate Oats has a track record of developing players, and Bethea sees this move as a pivotal step in his career.

“There’s a lot of potential in me waiting to be tapped, and I believe Alabama is the perfect environment for me to grow,” Bethea added. “I’m ready to make an impact.”

Alabama has been active in the transfer portal, landing another major commitment from Noah Williamson, the Patriot League Player of the Year, earlier this week. The addition of Williamson, a legitimate 7-footer, complements the Crimson Tide’s roster as they look to bolster their frontcourt. The team is also pursuing additional top targets as players explore their options.

As Alabama prepares for the upcoming season, Bethea’s commitment reflects the team’s ongoing efforts to build a competitive squad and leverage the transformation in college basketball due to new transfer regulations.
