Former NRL Player Cooper Johns Joins Kyle and Jackie O on Radio
Former NRL player Cooper Johns has recently made a surprising career move by joining radio duo Kyle and Jackie O as their new on-air talent. The 24-year-old Johns, son of NRL legend and media personality Matty Johns, did not receive a new contract from his previous team at the end of last season. Instead of seeking more playing opportunities, he has decided to venture into the media industry.
Johns had reportedly considered a move to the Super League but has now exchanged his boots for a microphone. His new role alongside Kyle and Jackie O was officially confirmed by both Johns and his new employer. During an on-air discussion on KISS FM, Jackie O expressed her surprise at Cooper’s sudden presence, exclaiming, ‘Why is Cooper Johns here all of a sudden? He’s got his own desk!’
Kyle Sandilands, the radio veteran, further confirmed that Cooper Johns would be staying with the radio duo, stating, ‘We’re not sure what he does yet, but we’ve just secured his services.’ Sandilands also praised Johns’ talents and expressed his belief in securing his abilities for the show.
While Johns is new to the radio industry, he has already made appearances in various other media formats, including radio, television, and podcasts. During the discussion, Johns humorously acknowledged his own uncertainty about his new role, stating, ‘Nobody really knew what I was doing (in here this morning), and I don’t actually know what I’m doing either.’
Sandilands revealed that Cooper’s father, Matty Johns, initially had doubts about his son’s decision to pursue a career in radio. Sandilands mentioned that Matty had expressed concerns during a phone call, urging the radio hosts to ensure that Cooper’s move was worthwhile. Nevertheless, Johns emphasized that he has not given up on his football career, leaving the announcement of his future football endeavors for another time.
