Former Peterborough Petes Player Logan Hunter Passes Away After Battle With Pancreatic Cancer

Logan Hunter, a former player for the Peterborough Petes hockey team, has tragically passed away at the age of 39 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind his wife Alicia and three children, Maddox (8), Millar (6), and Merrick (4). Logan was part of the esteemed Hunter family known for their contributions to hockey, with his uncles Dale, Dave, and Mark Hunter being NHL players.

Logan, originally from Oil Springs, Ontario, also had ties to the London Knights, another renowned hockey team owned by his uncles. The Hunter family has experienced multiple losses recently, with Logan’s grandfather Dick Hunter passing away earlier this year.

Despite playing only one season for the Petes, Logan made a significant impact on the team. Former Petes general manager Jeff Twohey, who acquired Logan during the 2004-05 OHL season, spoke highly of his contributions towards the Petes winning the OHL championship the following year. While Logan’s statistics may not have been exceptional, his mentorship and guidance to young players like Liam Reddox, Daniel Ryder, and Jordan Staal were invaluable. Twohey believes Logan played a pivotal role in kickstarting Staal’s successful OHL career.

Logan’s influence extended beyond his time with the Petes. He had previously played for the London Knights, a team that would go on to win the Memorial Cup and be hailed as one of the greatest junior teams in history. Despite this, Logan fully embraced his time with the Petes and brought his winning attitude and professionalism to the team.

Bryan Young, who developed a close relationship with Logan during their time together on the Petes, praised his work ethic and the positive impact he had on the team’s culture. Their shared backgrounds from small rural towns allowed them to connect on a personal level, and they remained friends even after their hockey careers.

Logan Hunter will be remembered as a great guy with a quick laugh, generous nature, and strong work ethic. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the hockey community.
