Former Tigers Outfielder Cameron to Take Paternity Leave

Detroit, MI — Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Daz Cameron is set to take a temporary break from baseball as he prepares for the arrival of his child. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel‘s Todd Rosiak, Cameron has been placed on the paternity list by the Milwaukee Brewers.
MLB regulations state that any player on the paternity list must miss at least one game but no more than three. This comes as a significant moment for Cameron, who is marking a new chapter in his life.
Cameron, a former first-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2015, was traded to the Tigers in a notable deal in August 2017 that sent Justin Verlander to Houston. The native of McDonough, Georgia, made his MLB debut in 2020 and played parts of three seasons with Detroit. During his time with the Tigers, Cameron hit .201 with five home runs and 24 RBIs in 73 games.
After the 2022 season, the Tigers placed Cameron on waivers. He was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles and spent the 2023 season with their Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk. Cameron later signed a minor-league contract with the Oakland Athletics, but he did not play in his second stint with Baltimore.
In April, he was traded to the Brewers along with cash in exchange for veteran pitcher Grant Wolfram. Since joining the Brewers, Cameron has recorded a batting average of .200 with one home run and three RBIs in 19 games. Notably, he has excelled at Triple-A Nashville, hitting .370 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in just 11 games.
As Cameron steps into fatherhood, there are hopes that this life change will inspire him to elevate his performance on the field and aim for a spot as an everyday Major Leaguer.
