Las Vegas, NV – Former two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira signaled his dissatisfaction with the promotion on Wednesday, raising concerns about his future in the sport. At 37 years old, Pereira voiced his struggle after a recent disagreement with UFC officials.

Pereira took to social media, stating, “I always answered the UFC’s calls, but if they want to play with me, we can do that. I’ve never spoken poorly of the UFC, but with what I’ve just heard, I’m disheartened.” He even hinted at contemplating retirement, adding, “I’ve already had thoughts of not fighting anymore, and after what was just relayed to me, this may be the start.”

The context behind Pereira’s message remains unclear, especially after he lost his light heavyweight title to Magomed Ankalaev in March. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on his next fight, but no announcements have surfaced regarding a rematch or new opponents.

Before his loss to Ankalaev, Pereira was rumored to be in talks for a superfight with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Meanwhile, Jones has also shown interest in moving up to 205 pounds for a challenge against Pereira.

Since fully committing to MMA in 2021, Pereira has emerged as one of the sport’s biggest stars. He previously dominated in kickboxing, and after taking the middleweight title from Israel Adesanya, he successfully transitioned to light heavyweight where he earned another title and defended it three times in an impressive 2024.

The nature of Pereira’s issues with the UFC remains unknown, raising questions about pay disputes, fight timing, or potential opponents.
