Former UFC champion Holly Holm to face Kayla Harrison at UFC 300
The highly anticipated UFC 300 event is set to feature a thrilling matchup between former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm and two-time PFL women’s lightweight tournament champion Kayla Harrison. This exciting fight was announced by UFC CEO Dana White, who praised both fighters for their impressive records and skills in combat sports.
Holly Holm, a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame, has established herself as one of the toughest women in combat sports history. With a record of wins and significant strikes landed, Holm has consistently proved her mettle inside the octagon. However, there is one opponent she has yet to face.
Kayla Harrison, the first American to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in judo, has signed with the UFC. With an impressive record of 16-1 and 12 finishes, Harrison is known for her exceptional takedowns and ground and pound abilities. This fight will mark her debut in the bantamweight division, adding to the excitement surrounding this clash of talented fighters.
Kayla Harrison joins the UFC after a successful run in the PFL, where she won the women’s lightweight tournament in both 2019 and 2021. Her only loss came in a unanimous decision bout against Larissa Pacheco at the end of the 2022 tournament. Her victory over former UFC fighter Aspen Ladd further solidified her skills and prepared her for this new challenge.
Holly Holm, currently ranked fifth in the official UFC women’s bantamweight rankings, is aiming to bounce back from her recent loss to Mayra Bueno Silva. Although the fight was initially ruled in favor of Bueno Silva, it was later deemed a no contest due to a failed drug test. With a solid MMA career record of 15-6-0-1, Holm is determined to prove herself against Harrison.
Alongside this exciting matchup, UFC 300 will feature several other notable fights. Justin Gaethje will face Max Holloway, while Jim Miller takes on Bobby Green. UFC women’s strawweight champion, Zhang Weili, will defend her title against Yan Xiaonan.
