Freshman Skier Johs Braathen Herland Alpine Skiing Competition

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Johs Braathen Herland of the University of Denver has been named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) Co-Most Valuable Player (MVP) in men’s giant slalom, following an impressive inaugural season.

Herland, a freshman, collected 152 NCAA qualification points this season, tying with Colorado’s Louis Fausa for the highest total in the conference. His participation in all 12 races resulted in 10 top-10 finishes, including five podium placements.

The young skier achieved a significant victory at the Montana State Invitational, along with a silver medal at the Utah Invitational. These performances have positioned him as a key competitor in collegiate alpine skiing.

Herland will make his debut at the NCAA Championships next week, which will take place at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. This event is expected to be a vital opportunity for him to further showcase his talents on a national stage.

“I’m really excited to compete at the NCAA Championships. It’s a huge opportunity, and I hope to build on my performance this season,” Herland said. His enthusiasm reflects the commitment and competitive spirit that exemplifies his success this year.

The NCAA Championships will not only highlight Herland’s achievements but could also impact his prospects in future alpine skiing competitions. A strong showing could enhance his visibility among professional scouts and teams.

Herland’s recognition as RMISA Co-MVP underscores his significant impact as a freshman athlete. His success sets the stage for the challenges he will face at the upcoming championships, marking him as a skier to watch in the evolving collegiate alpine skiing landscape.
