Frustration Boils Over as Marinakis Confronts Nuno After Forest’s Draw

NOTTINGHAM, England — Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis clashed with manager Nuno Espirito Santo on the pitch following Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City in the Premier League. Frustrated by the last-minute goal that cost his team a win, Marinakis confronted Nuno at the City Ground after the final whistle.
The match started with Leicester taking the lead in the 15th minute, thanks to Conor Coady‘s header after a shot rebounded off goalkeeper Mats Selz. Nottingham Forest equalized through Morgan Gibbs-White just ten minutes later, and Chris Wood put them ahead in the second half. However, Facundo Buonanotte snatched a late equalizer for Leicester, leaving Forest in seventh place, just a point off fifth and a possible Champions League spot.
Marinakis’s emotional response drew criticism from pundits, including Gary Neville, who said on Sky Sports, “What the Nottingham Forest owner has just done on the pitch is absolutely scandalous… Where that club’s been, to be remonstrated with on the pitch in front of their own fans is a joke.”
Nuno echoed some frustration, stating that it was a game they should have won. After the match, he commented, “Football is about emotions. We had expectations today, but we need to stay solid and avoid mistakes.”
Forest now must rely on results in their remaining matches to secure European football for next season. With matches against West Ham and Chelsea ahead, the pressure is on. Nuno stressed, “We now have to react. It’s no longer in our hands but we need to find solutions.”
Though they missed a key chance at victory, Forest has secured qualification for the Europa League. Nuno and his players must ensure that this opportunity isn’t squandered in the coming weeks.
