Galion Ohio East Walnut Street Police Barricade

GALION, Ohio — A barricade situation in the 900 block of East Walnut Street was resolved peacefully Wednesday evening after hours of police activity, according to the Galion Police Department.

Authorities first reported an “active situation” Wednesday afternoon, prompting road closures and advisories for residents to stay indoors. The Galion Police Department confirmed via social media that the incident had ended safely, though officers remained on the scene to continue their investigation.

“The situation has been resolved safely,” the department stated in a social media post. “There will still be a police presence in the area as the investigation continues, but everything has ended peacefully.”

Earlier in the day, police had urged the public to avoid the area around East Walnut Street and First Avenue. Residents of nearby Murray and Workman streets were advised to remain inside their homes. A police dispatcher clarified that the situation did not involve an active shooter, stating, “There’s no one running around with a gun or anything like that.”

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was called to assist Galion police during the incident. Authorities emphasized the need for officers to focus on the task at hand without distractions from bystanders or traffic. “The situation is contained,” police wrote on social media. “But we need officers to be able to focus on the task at hand, not worry about people driving in the area.”

No further details about the nature of the incident or any individuals involved have been released as of Wednesday evening.
