Garcia, Haney, and Lopez Make Weight Ahead of Times Square Tripleheader

NEW YORK — Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Teofimo Lopez Jr. made weight on Thursday ahead of their highly-anticipated boxing tripleheader on Friday night in Times Square. Each fighter is set for their respective bouts that promise plenty of excitement.
Garcia weighed in at 146.8 pounds for his welterweight fight against Rolando “Rolly” Romero, who tipped the scales at 146.6 pounds. Their fight is scheduled for a contracted weight of 147 pounds. This marks Garcia’s return to the ring after a year-long suspension due to a positive test for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine following his controversial bout with Haney last year.
Haney, who holds an undefeated record of 31-0 with 15 knockouts, weighed in at 143 pounds for his catchweight fight against Jose Ramirez, who clocked in at 143.8 pounds. Their match has a contracted weight of 144 pounds, and this fight will also be Haney’s first since facing Garcia.
Lopez weighed in at 139.6 pounds for his WBO junior welterweight title defense against Arnold Barboza Jr., who came in at 139.8 pounds. Their match will kick off the event, with Lopez eager to defend his title.
Garcia expressed excitement about being back in New York, referencing his previous fight and mentioning, “It felt so sweet, so we’re going to have to do it again sooner or later, right?” He emphasized the importance of taking Romero seriously, stating, “I’ve got to take him as serious as if I’m fighting Devin, so we’re going to be prepared 100%.” Romero, on the other hand, viewed this fight as a long-awaited opportunity, claiming past sparring sessions with Garcia gave him confidence.
The boxing tripleheader will take place outdoors, a first for Times Square, drawing large crowds and creating additional excitement. Oscar De La Hoya, promoter for Garcia, highlighted the need for all fighters to maintain focus amid the distractions outside the ring. “It’s going to be very difficult for every single fighter, because there will be people everywhere, thousands of people watching,” he noted.
The event will stream on DAZN PPV, with fight fans looking forward to a night packed with fireworks in the heart of New York City.
