Garrett Crochet Prepares for Challenge Against Yankees at Fenway Park

BOSTON, Mass. — Garrett Crochet is gearing up to face the New York Yankees on Friday night at Fenway Park after securing a win against them in the Bronx.
In his last outing, Crochet allowed five runs over six innings but still emerged victorious. As he prepares for this matchup, he reflects on his performance and what adjustments he needs to make. “They can refine their plan against me and I can refine mine,” said Crochet. “I know what I did well and I know what I did poorly.”
One of Crochet’s main focuses is reworking his strategy against Yankees catcher Austin Wells, who hit a three-run home run and an RBI double off him in their previous encounter. “I need to adjust,” Crochet said. “At the same time, it doesn’t feel any different. I have to use what works for me.”
The rivalry with the Yankees is not something Crochet feels deeply at this point in his career. “The rivalry is more for the fans,” he explained. “For me, I get a little extra juice because they’re a good team.”
In addition to Crochet, rookie Hunter Dobbins is set to start the next game against the Yankees. Dobbins stirred some controversy by stating he would retire rather than play for the Yankees. However, this claim was later investigated and found to be inaccurate. “I don’t care what they say,” Dobbins replied when asked about media reports. “I’ve never really cared what the media [in New York] says.”
Rafael Devers shone last weekend against the Yankees, hitting two home runs in the series. Devers now holds a total of 30 home runs against the Yankees in his career, ranking him seventh all-time among Red Sox players.
Trevor Story is also performing well, batting .308 in June with several extra-base hits and RBIs. “I’ve noticed defensively he’s taken it to another level the last 10 games, too,” said manager Alex Cora.
The Red Sox have recorded homers in eight of their last nine games, hitting 16 total in that stretch. They are hoping to build on this momentum against the Yankees, who have had success on the road this season.
Craig Kimbrel is slated to start for the Yankees, and Crochet will be looking to limit the damage this time around. “It’s time to get back to what we do best,” Crochet said.
