Coco Gauff French Open Performance

ROLAND GARROS, PARIS — Coco Gauff is into the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 on June 2, showcasing dominant tennis for much of the match.

The second seed, Gauff, who was a finalist here in 2022 and a semifinalist last year, faced Alexandrova, who some considered a dangerous opponent. However, Alexandrova struggled early, unable to maintain her performance from previous rounds.

Gauff quickly established control, winning the first set in just 29 minutes. She broke Alexandrova’s serve twice and kept the pressure on with her aggressive style. Despite her opponent finding some rhythm in the second set, Gauff closed out the match in 82 minutes.

“Yeah it was tough, obviously. Overall I thought I played great,” Gauff said after the match. “Definitely I think I move well on clay; I’m really comfortably sliding.”

In the second set, Alexandrova improved her form, hitting deeper shots but could not overcome a slew of errors. Gauff finished the match with a total of 72 points, including just 14 winners. This marks Gauff’s fourth straight-sets victory in the tournament.

Gauff entered the tournament as a top contender alongside Aryna Sabalenka, who had also been performing well. Gauff’s next challenge will be against the winner of the match between fellow Americans Madison Keys and Hailey Baptiste.

As Gauff progresses in the tournament, she is gaining confidence on the surface, having made the finals of both the Madrid Open and the Italian Open in the lead-up to Roland Garros. “I’ve had a stellar clay-court season,” Gauff noted, emphasizing her good form heading into the quarterfinals.
