Coco Gauff French Open Semifinal

PARIS — Coco Gauff surged into the French Open final on June 5, 2025, by defeating local favorite, 22-year-old Léa Boisson, with a convincing score of 6-1, 6-2. This semifinal victory at Court Philippe-Chatrier showcased Gauff’s prowess as she prepares to face Aryna Sabalenka in the championship match on Saturday.

Gauff, the second seed, demonstrated her strength and composure under pressure, while Boisson, ranked 361st and competing as a wild card, struggled to match the intensity. Despite her previous wins against higher-ranked players in the tournament, Boisson could not find her footing and will walk away with €690,000 ($789,567) in prize money.

“Today it was quite simply too tough for me,” said Boisson. “I couldn’t manage to get my game going, but apart from today’s match, the tournament as a whole was very positive.”

Gauff acknowledged the difficulty of facing a home favorite. “I was mentally prepared that it was to be 99% for her, so I was trying to block it out,” she noted. During the match, she focused on maintaining her own identity amidst the crowd’s support for Boisson.

The young American’s powerful shot-making proved critical, as she recorded only 15 unforced errors compared to Boisson’s 33. Gauff dominated longer rallies, winning 34 of 51 points that lasted five strokes or more.

“It’s always the plan to start strong,” Gauff remarked. “I knew it was important today. She’s an incredible player. I’m sure we’ll have more battles in the future.”

In the other semifinal, Aryna Sabalenka ended Iga Swiatek‘s dream of a fourth consecutive French Open title, winning 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0. This victory marked the first final at Roland Garros for Sabalenka. Both finalists, ranked first and second respectively, will face off in a rematch of the 2023 US Open final, where Gauff emerged victorious.
