Gauff Aims for French Open Glory Against Sabalenka This Weekend

PARIS, France — Coco Gauff is set to compete for her second chance at the French Open title this weekend. The 21-year-old American tennis star defeated Loïs Boisson 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals on Thursday, advancing to her second French Open final.
Ranked No. 2 at Roland Garros, Gauff will face off against top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s final on Saturday. This matchup marks only the second time in 30 years that the No. 1 and No. 2 women have clashed for the title at the French Open, according to ESPN.
The upcoming match is a rematch of the 2023 U.S. Open final, where Gauff, then 19, captured her first Grand Slam title. This Saturday’s final will be Gauff’s third Grand Slam final after she was the runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros in 2022.
Sabalenka secured her spot in the final by defeating Swiatek 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0 in the semifinals of this year’s tournament. Gauff made headlines last summer during the 2024 Olympics, becoming the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the event since Venus Williams in 2000.
Also at the Olympics, she became the first tennis player to carry the flag for Team USA during the opening ceremony. The anticipation builds as Gauff prepares to face Sabalenka in what promises to be an exciting final.
