Gavin Wimsatt Kentucky Quarterback

Kentucky‘s quarterback situation remains uncertain as the Wildcats prepare to face the 7th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Following a disappointing 24-10 loss to Auburn, Gavin Wimsatt and Brock Vandagriff are both under consideration to start the upcoming game.

In the loss to Auburn, Wimsatt replaced Vandagriff midway through the game but failed to produce significant results. Wimsatt completed 3 of 10 passes for 34 yards and threw one interception, while Vandagriff finished with 9 of 17 passes for 120 yards and also threw one interception.

Offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan is evaluating both quarterbacks, emphasizing the need for change after the offense’s struggles. Hamdan noted that the team needs to seek consistency on offense and finish drives when in the red zone, a challenge that has plagued the Wildcats this season.

During the game against Tennessee on Saturday, Wimsatt saw action as a backup quarterback. He found Ja’Mori Maclin for a 32-yard touchdown and helped the Cats convert a two-point attempt, cutting the Tennessee lead.

Coach Mark Stoops has adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding the starting quarterback, choosing not to reveal the decision ahead of the game. Despite the uncertainty, Vandagriff has maintained his usual pregame routine, according to Stoops.

The Wildcats’ hopes of reaching the postseason for the ninth straight season hinge on winning three of their last four games, making the decision on the starting quarterback crucial for their success).
