Genk’s Unbeaten Run Ends as Arokodare Takes Responsibility for Missed Chances
Belgian Pro League leaders KRC Genk experienced their first defeat of the season following a surprising 2-1 loss to KV Kortrijk, the team currently positioned at the bottom of the league standings. This unexpected setback has generated notable attention as Genk had been enjoying an excellent run of form.
Striker Tolu Arokodare, who leads the league scoring chart with six goals, has publicly taken accountability for not delivering in crucial moments during the match. Speaking to Het Belang van Limburg, Arokodare stated, “The team are counting on me to score. Whether I start or come on as a substitute, it is still my job to score. I expect that of myself. I didn’t score, so I have to be tough on myself. Chances like this cost us points. You saw that.”
Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Genk’s finishing was not up to par, resulting in missed chances to secure the game. Arokodare admitted, “We were unlucky in our finishing. The keeper also played a very strong match. But even then, I keep getting chances, but I also have to finish them.”
The striker acknowledged the necessity for improvement in his performance, specifically by enhancing his finishing skills in the weeks to come. He emphasized the importance of his role in translating scoring chances into goals for Genk’s success.
