George Mason Women’s Basketball Remains Undefeated with Dominant Win Over Monmouth
The George Mason University women’s basketball team continued their unbeaten streak with a convincing 89-66 victory over the Monmouth University Hawks on Tuesday evening at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.
Sophomore Kennedy Harris led the Patriots with an impressive performance, scoring 20 points, including a career-high 7-for-7 from the free throw line, along with 4 assists and 3 steals. Senior Paula Suárez set the tone early, scoring the first five points of the game, and the Patriots never relinquished their lead throughout the contest.
The Patriots’ strong defense was a key factor, particularly in the first half, where they accumulated eight steals and built a 21-point lead by halftime. Despite Monmouth’s efforts to close the gap in the third quarter, George Mason’s bench contributed significantly, adding 31 points to the team’s total. Trinity Massenburg also had a standout game, scoring a career-high 8 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.
Monmouth’s Damaris Rodriguez led her team with a season-best 17 points, and Jaye Haynes added 14 points, including a career-high four three-pointers. However, the Hawks struggled with turnovers, committing 25 compared to George Mason’s eight, which the Patriots capitalized on to score 26 points off turnovers.
The Patriots shot an impressive 52.4% from the field and 81% from the free throw line, maintaining their high scoring average over the first three games of the season. George Mason will next embark on a two-game road trip, facing Marshall on Sunday and Wake Forest on Wednesday).
