George Russell Secures Pole Position at Las Vegas Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz Close Second
In the highly anticipated qualifying session for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Mercedes driver George Russell clinched the pole position, edging out Ferrari‘s Carlos Sainz. Russell’s impressive performance saw him post a time of 1m 32.312s, just a tenth of a second ahead of Sainz’s 1m 32.410s in his Ferrari SF-24.
Sainz and his teammate Charles Leclerc had expressed optimism about the race pace of their Ferrari cars during practice sessions, but acknowledged the need to improve their one-lap performance. Despite this, Sainz managed to secure a strong second place in qualifying, indicating Ferrari’s potential for a competitive race.
Pierre Gasly of Alpine took the third spot, continuing his team’s strong form after a double podium finish at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Leclerc settled for fourth place, while Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will start from the third row of the grid in fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
The qualifying session was marked by several incidents, including a dramatic crash by Franco Colapinto in Q2 and difficulties faced by other drivers such as Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, who struggled with grip and confidence issues.
